For manufacturers like Jireh Metal Products, productivity and precision are more than buzzwords—they’re the heartbeat of daily operations. In 2018, as the company prepared for a major restructuring and equipment upgrade, the team sought ways to reduce coil change time in stamping operations while boosting operator efficiency. The challenge was clear: transition work from two mechanical 400-ton presses to a more advanced, streamlined press line—without disrupting customer schedules.
The Challenge: Streamlining Setup and Scaling for Growth
Jireh’s legacy systems handled the job, but weren’t optimized for the changing demands of today’s manufacturing. Setup times were long, newer operators struggled to get up to speed, and safely processing higher-strength materials was becoming increasingly difficult. To solve this, Jireh needed a feed line that could support tighter tolerances, accelerate training, and keep operators safe—all while handling complex jobs with minimal downtime.
The COE Solution: Advanced Automation Built for Operators
Jireh partnered with COE Press Equipment to integrate a new servo press and automated COE feed line. The impact was immediate:
-
Reduced Coil Change Time
The new line streamlined coil changes, saving approximately five minutes per changeover—a small gain that adds up quickly across shifts and setups. -
Faster Onboarding for New Operators
COE’s Work Roll Advisor feature uses material specs (width, yield strength, thickness) to auto-calculate work roll penetration. As a result, less experienced operators can set up jobs with the same confidence and accuracy as seasoned team members. -
Safe Handling of High-Strength Materials
With enhanced coil containment and robust design, the new feed line safely processes thicker and springier materials without compromising on speed or reliability.
“We can take a new operator and have them hit the ground running faster… even for critical parts with tight tolerances,” said a team member at Jireh.
The Result: A Smarter, Safer, More Capable Line
From install to production, the integration was smooth and fast—taking just over a week to get fully operational. Today, Jireh uses the line for its most complex, high-tolerance jobs, while planning to expand with two identical COE lines for 80- and 110-ton presses in the near future.
Thinking About Upgrading Your Line?
Whether you’re looking to simplify training, reduce coil change time in stamping operations, or handle tougher materials, Jireh’s experience shows what’s possible with the right partner.
